Questions

Questions about your birth story

The Born Story shows the world on the day you were born, from public records. Here’s where the facts come from and what happens to your birthday.

Where does the data come from?

The Born Story uses public records: NOAA for weather, the U.S. Census Bureau for population, the Bureau of Labor Statistics for prices, and the CDC’s National Center for Health Statistics for births and life expectancy.

Every card names its source and the year of the record. We never fill a gap with a guess; if a record is missing, the card says so or isn’t shown.

Is the weather the actual weather on my birthday?

Yes. The high and low come from a weather station’s own log for that exact date, not an average.

When no station inside the city recorded that day, we use a nearby station and show how many miles away it is. When no station close enough has a record, we show no weather card at all.

How do you know what the Moon looked like?

The Born Story calculates the Moon’s phase for 9 p.m. local time in your birth city, using standard astronomical formulas checked against the U.S. Naval Observatory.

Which birthdays and cities are covered?

The Born Story covers birthdays from January 1, 1940, through December 31, 2008, in the 100 largest U.S. cities of the 1990 Census.

If your city isn’t covered, the city search tells you before you start.

Do you store my birthday?

No. When you look up a birthday, The Born Story uses the date and city to build your page and doesn’t save them. A full birth date never appears in a page address.

We store a birthday only when you make a share link, so the link works. Share links are deleted after 180 days.

Do you track me?

The Born Story doesn’t use advertising or analytics cookies. We count visits and clicks without a visitor ID, using only a five-year birth-year range and a state, and we honor Global Privacy Control.

Can I share my result?

Yes. From your result you can copy a share link or save an image sized for a post or a story. The link opens the same story for 180 days.

Is it free?

Yes. The Born Story’s birthday story is free, with no sign-up. If you want something to frame or give, the printable Born Story Poster is $14.99.

Is this a horoscope?
